About Vimy Outdoor Pursuits


Outdoor Pursuits is a program based on physical fitness and adventure sport. Academics and athletics are balanced in an alternative program that provides students with the opportunity to participate in outdoor sports as well as traditional indoor activities. An emphasis is placed on physical fitness, leadership and team work as students develop outdoor skills and travel on Backcountry camping excursions.

Some examples of the activities that Vimy Outdoor Pursuits’ student-athletes participate in are:

Water Sports

Canoeing/ kayaking/ SUP
Training on Hermitage Pond
Jr. High North Saskatchewan River Trip in Voyageur Canoes
High School North Saskatchewan River trip in Tandem Canoes
Fishing – Jr. High

Snow Sports

Skiing/ Snowboarding
Jr. High Locally
High School – Locally/ Kananaskis Back Country Trip
X- country skiing
Winter skills – shelter building/ fire starting/ avalanche safety
Winter Camping Trip
Winter Travel 15 High School 3 credit course

Mountain Sports

Mountain Hiking/ Scrambling
Jr. High: Jasper Trip – Scrambling
High School Backpacking Trip
Mountain Biking
Jr. High Locally
High School Locally & Mountain Trip to Jasper
Jr. High Wall Climbing at school
High School Wall Climbing

First Aid

Basic First Aid – JH
Wilderness First Aid – HS
