Facilities at Vimy Hockey

Student-Athletes at Vimy Hockey have access to the world-class facilities on the Vimy campus. Using these facilities, our student-athletes work every day on “Becoming More” both on and off of the ice.

The Treadmill and Shooting Cage

The skating treadmill and shooting cage at Vimy are integral parts to Vimy Hockey’s curriculum. Fully opened in the 2013-2014 school year, Vimy Hockey Junior High student-athletes receive multiple sessions a month in the treadmill, shooting cage and skills area as part of their Training.

On the treadmill, student-athletes work with a qualified skating instructor to increase their power, balance and first-step explosiveness to gain that edge out on the ice.

In the shooting cage, student-athletes work on a series of drills while wearing their skates on the artificial ice surface to increase shot quickness, accuracy and power while introducing new shooting angles to play havoc on goaltenders. While the goalies themselves work in the shooting cage on their movements and other drills designed by our Goaltending Director Kurtis Mucha.

The Fitness Centre

The fitness centre at Vimy Ridge Academy consists of state of the art equipment that has been hand chosen to maximize the benefit to our student-athletes in order to optimize their athletic development.

Part of the Vimy Hockey curriculum includes a systematic approach to training whereby student-athletes learn movement patterns throughout the school year that enhance their performance on the ice. A number of training parameters are explored including increasing power, speed, balance, strength, coordination, agility and flexibility.

The Bike Room

In the spring of 2011, 36 Keiser M3 bikes were installed in the bike room, located adjacent to the fitness centre, providing another space for Vimy student-athletes to work on their fitness level.

A comprehensive spin bike curriculum has been developed to educate student-athletes on how to train different energy systems within the body. Log sheets have been developed to instruct the student-athletes on how to effectively track their heart rate and manage their training zones to achieve their fitness goals.

The Stage

The stage is located in the main gym adjacent to the fitness centre. Student-athletes at Vimy use this space to work on multi-directional movement patterns, as well as dynamic flexibility and core training. The stage was recently renovated, with a fresh coat of paint and agility ladders and agility squares painted onto the floor to better utilize the space.

The stage is also the space where Vimy Hockey stickhandling and skills sessions take place.
